A 60-Degree February in Southern Minnesota

The forecast is heating up and it feels like spring could be here any minute! Knowing how fickle Minnesota weather can be, I reached out to Weather Eye meteorologist Laura Lockwood to get her take on this warm weather we've been experiencing and if it will continue. Laura is always helpful in breaking down weather patterns and explaining the latest forecast to our listeners.

According to the records, February 16-22, 1981, also brought high temperatures ranging from 55-59 degrees. The monthly record high is 64 degrees and was hit February 26, 1896

Lockwood projects that above-normal temperatures look to continue through the end of the month. Lockwood says "I would not rule out winter just yet; we usually get a couple of bigger systems from now through April, usually one around the boys basketball tourney."  Looking ahead to March though, based on the current conditions and data available, it does appear that the overall trend will be temperatures near normal with normal amounts of precipitation.

Taking a look at the three-month outlook, our area could see slightly higher temperatures and somewhat increased precipitation, with the phase the El Nino / Southern Oscillation is in. Currently, it is neutral and and it appears that it will remain that way for a few months.
