The Faribault Falcon girls swimming and diving team had seven members of their squad participate at the MSHSL State Girls State Meet and five of them are competing on the final day of the season.

All five are competing for a possible state title in five different events.

Senior Bre Bresnahan placed second in the 100 Yard Breaststroke last year with a time of 1:05.60 and clocked 1:06.34 in the preliminaries Friday to place 7th and advance to today's finals.

Bresnahan is also the starter on the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay which placed 4th in prelim action Friday and swims for a possible state title.  The other swimmers are senior Malia Stone, freshman Abby Larson and senior Megan Gehrke.

The Falcons 200 Yard Medley Relay had the fastest time Friday and has freshman Verity Wray-Raabolle start them off, then it's Bresnahan, sophomore Gesa Wilden and Gehrke.

Wilden is also in the finals in the 50 Yard Freestyle and the 100 Yard Butterfly.  The foreign exchange student from Germany placed 4th in both Friday.

Swimming in consolation round competition today will be Gehrke in the 50 Yard Freestyle and 100 Yard Freestyle.  She placed 7th in each of those events last year but did not make the finals after finishing 11th and 9th respectively in the preliminary races.

Freshman Abby Larson finished 9th in the 200 Yard Freestyle Friday and was 5th last year at state and also will be in consolation action in the 500 Yard Freestyle after placing 10th.  Last year Larson was 7th in that event.

Freshman Verity Wray-Raabolle placed 12th in the prelims in the 100 Yard Backstroke and is in consolation action today.  She was 27th in the 100 Yard Butterfly.

The Falcon 400 Yard Free Relay of Wilden, Wray-Raabolle, Larson and Bresnahan looked tired in their preliminary race and finished 17th.  It is the last event of the meet.

The Northfield Gators have some athletes in consolation action but nobody in the finals today.

Their 400 Freestyle Relay team is comprised entirely of sophomores, Signe and Tatum Hauck, Ella Palmquist and Alice Zhang..  They were 13th in the preliminaries and were excited to finish ahead of Faribault in the event.

Northfield's 200 Yard Medley Relay was 16th in the preliminaries and swims in consolation action. Sophomore Tatum Hauck, 7th grader Ella Anderson, sophomore Alice Zhang and senior Amy Miller are on that relay.

Sophomore Caroline Peterson finished 18th in the 200 Yard Individual Medley and classmate Alice Zhang was 22nd in the 100 Yard Butterfly.

The top 8 preliminary finishers are in the finals and the next 8 swimmers in consolation competition.

Last year Faribault placed 6th in Class A with 129.5 points.  Northfield was 14th with 66 points.  Visitation won their third straight state title with 261 points and Breck was second with 211 points.
