The Dakota Rice Corn and Soybean growers a couple of years ago teamed up with Agriculture Future of America to sponsor two scholarships for high school seniors in Dakota and Rice County that plan on going to college majoring in any field of agriculture. For many years the Rice County Pork Producers and Dakota Rice Corn and Soybean Growers sponsored the Oinker Open Golf Tournament. It was renamed the Oinker Open and Scramble for Scholarship Dollars two years ago. Last summer more than $3,500 was raised for scholarships.

The two students who receive the Dakota Rice Corn and Soybean Growers Scholarship  will receive a matching scholarship from the AFA. In addition, they can go to a leadership conference in Kansas City where they spend time with CEOs of major agriculture companies. If you would like more information, call Jeff Schultz at the South Central College Farm Business Management office in Faribault at (507) 838-7459. You can also go to the AFA website for information. In addition, the scholarship application is also on that website. The application deadline is March 17.
