'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' hasn't even hit theaters in the United States yet and they've already started trying to sell us on the home video release. But, before we can say "Hey, hold your horses! We'll contemplate picking up the physical media after we've seen the movie!", they go ahead and reveal the special edition Blu-ray set and it is a thing of hideous, baffling beauty. Behold the 'Amazing Spider-Man 2' deluxe edition, which is housed inside the cranium of Jamie Foxx's Electro.

This is not a drill. This bust, which looks less like Jamie Foxx and more like a 'Hills Have Eyes' mutant with a head cold, is actually something that someone at Sony saw sketched on paper, signed off on for production, nodded at approvingly when someone put it on his desk, and decided was okay to sell to the public. That bears repeating: someone who makes a lot more money than you and me thought this was a thing that people would want to have on their shelves.

Look, we're not opposed to lining our DVD wall with the severed heads of Spider-Man villains. Heck, we're not even opposed to decorating our homes with the misplaced noggins of Jamie Foxx characters. All we ask is that the head in question remotely resemble what it's supposed to resemble. This isn't Electro -- this is a blue, veiny man with a nerve condition. Maybe he's drunk. Maybe he's drunk and he has a nerve condition. Maybe there's a deleted 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' subplot where it's revealed that Electro tends to get a bad case of the derps and this is actually a brilliant work of art that captures the character perfectly. If so, bravo.

This 'Amazing Spider-Man 2' Blu-ray set will hit stores later this year and retails for a whopping $149.99. Amazon is currently taking pre-orders if you must.
