Anyone who had an AM radio anywhere near Minnesota from 1959 to 2010 no doubt heard the voice of Charlie Boone. His voice boomed for those years on WCCO. That voice became silent on Sunday. Charlie passed away due to complications from pulmonary fibrosis.

Charlie and Roger Erickson were, in my opinion, the stars of that station when I was growing up in the Twin Cities. I knew I could probably never be like them but they were one of the reasons I got interested in a career in radio. Charlie taught the radio world how to do severe weather coverage during the '65 tornado outbreak in the Cities. He could do some great voices. My favorite was when he was the senator. And on Fridays when they did the worst jokes of the week, I couldn't stop laughing.

Boone and Erickson set the bar for morning radio. Many will equal them, but I don't think they will be topped. RIP Charlie. If there is radio in heaven, I am sure you will be on the air soon.
