Tornado Watch For Southern Minnesota Until 10PM
Update: The Storm Prediction center has issued a Tornado watch effective until 10pm. The watch means conditions are favorable for the development of severe thunderstorms and possible tornadoes in and close to the watch area. The watch area includes:
Blue Earth, Brown, Dakota, Faribault, Freeborn, Goodhue, Le Sueur, Martin, Nicollet, Redwood, Rice, Scott, Steele, Waseca, and Watowan counties.
The National Weather Service says that conditions are unstable enough for some more severe weather to develop across south and southeastern Minnesota on Wednesday afternoon and evening.
Strong thunderstorms are expected this afternoon and evening, primarily from south-central Minnesota into west-central Wisconsin. There will be a risk of large hail, damaging winds and a tornadoes, primarily south and east of a St. James to Red Wing to Ladysmith, Wis., line. Heavy rain and associated flooding also will be a continued risk.
Numerous reports of 1- to 2-inch hail were sent via Twitter throughout the area Tuesday afternoon and evening. Late Tuesday evening Rochester Airport reported winds near 60 mph.
