The Bethlehem Academy Cardinals got Dennis Glenzinski his first win as head coach in their 24-21 defeat of the Medford Tigers (1-3) at Bruce Smith Field in Faribault on Friday night.

Both teams spent some time moving the ball in the first quarter, but no scoring. Then in the opening seconds of the second quarter, Jack Clark intercepted the ball and ran it back about 20 yards for a touchdown. The extra point kick failed and it was 6-0 Cardinals. Then at 7:08 of the second quarter Marcus Deleon scored the first of three touchdowns, this one from 3 yards out, and Javis Vonruden kicked the extra point and made it 7-6 Medford. The Cardinals got the ball back and with 6:49 to go, Clark got about a 62-yard run for a touchdown; the two-point conversion failed and it was 12-7 B.A.

In the second half at 10:13 to go in the third, Nick Brown got a 17-yard run for a Cardinal score and they did not get the extra points again and it was 18-7. At 6:16 to go in the third, after the Tigers moved it down the field, Deleon scored again from about three yards out again and it was 18-13, as their attempt at an extra point failed. Brown scored at 3:55 to go in the third quarter and after the failed extra point it was 24-13.

Not much happened after that until 4:16 in the fourth quarter, Deleon scored again, this time from about eight yards out, and also got the two-point conversion and now it was 24-21. The Tigers did an onside kick; it touched the Cardinals but they did not hang on and it was recovered by Greg Larson for Medford. They marched it down field and on a fourth down play threw it into the hands of Clark and gave the ball back to B.A. with 1:21 left to play.

The Cardinals (1-3) win the battle for the paddle for the seventh straight year. They travel to play on United South Central's new football field for the first time next week and then comeback to face Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton for homecoming on October 7. Medford faces Kenyon-Wanamingo.

The State Farm Insurance Agents of Faribault, Jason Krohn and Tony Langerud, players of the game were Jack Clark, Alex Bongers and Avery Hunt.
