The University of Minnesota Extension Service will be hosting a Backyard Poultry Workshop on Tuesday, April 25, in the Rice County 4-H building on the Rice County Fairgrounds in Faribault. The program will be in the evening from 6:30-8:30PM. There is no cost and there will be refreshments thanks to Paddingtons Feed and Seed in Faribault. Preregistration is requested, however if you find you can attend at the last minute walk-ins are welcome too.

The workshop will cover a variety of topics that address the needs of a beginning farmer, hobbyist or backyard producer, or those who would like to raise birds on a small commercial enterprise. By the way, even if you live in town you may be able to have a small backyard poultry flock. For example, the city of Northfield does permit a few poultry within city limits and the Faribault City Council is considering allowing it too. If you would like more information or to register, contact Kendra Schroeder the Rice County or Steele County Extension office (507) 444-7685.
