Brewers Are Worried That Climate Change Is Putting Beer In Danger
If this isn’t a major sign that climate change is a huge issue facing the world at large, I don’t know what is. Both scientists and brewers across the country are sounding alarm bells that global warming could be putting the future of beer in danger.
…*gulp gulp gulp chug*
That’s because climate change is having an effect on water – the number one ingredient in beer, as well as the hops and barley used to make beer.
The long, hotter summers are causing areas that producer hops and barley to be much dryer, which is causing negative changes in production and flavor. So if this keeps up, your favorite brew could be tasting a lot different in the not-too-distant future. And if breweries aren’t able to produce enough hops, those tasty, hoppy IPAs you love might be few and far in between. I don't know about you, but I kind of like good-tasting beer. So if you'll excuse me, I'm off to go hug a tree for the rest of the afternoon. Whatever it takes!
