The Cannon Falls Bombers regular season finale was a 5-3 win over Minneapolis DeLasalle under the lights at John Burch Park on Saturday night.

The Bombers used four pitchers while handing the Islanders their ninth straight loss. Head DeLasalle coach Douge Schildgen told KDHL before the broadcast of the Bomber senior night affair his team had difficulty defensively. He was right, with the Islanders committing four errors in the first three innings and five overall.

It was a 2-2 game when the rain hit, delaying the game 33 minutes. The Bomber players and coaches did a terrific job getting the field back in pretty good playing shape after two downpours.

The Bombers erupted for three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to break the tie. Senior Carter Dombeck starting the inning with a single and senior Braden Hartl put down his second sacrifice bunt of the game hitting in the fifth spot in the lineup. Junior Tanner Carlson added an RBI single, which was followed by an error. Back-to-back pinch hit singles by sophomore Carlton Lindow and junior Jason Traynor completed the offensive onslaught as seven Bombers came to the plate.

The Islanders plated a run in the seventh off Tanner Carlson, in to close the game for Cannon Falls. Quinton Lindow got the win while throwing an inning of relief. Senior Jacob Reinhardt started the game and pitched three and two-thirds innings while throwing 82 pitches, 53 for strikes. Senior Jonathan Sharot gunned down a runner trying to score on a fly ball to right field that would've given DeLasalle the lead. The runner didn't get anywhere near home plate. He was tagged by catcher Garrett Beach after the throw by Sharot was caught about 3 feet up the third base line. Michael Monson got the final out of the fourth on a strikeout.

Cannon Falls finishes their regular season with a 14-6 mark and 11-5 in the Hiawatha Valley League.

Senior night had a special touch, with the parents of each of the eight seniors throwing out the first pitch to their sons and standing with their sons in the field when the national anthem was played. The sons gave the ball to their dads and a special hug and gift for their moms.

Section 1 Class AA West Subsection playoffs begin next week, and it's loaded with very good teams. Remember, the first round is do or die.
