Cannon Valley Elder Collegium Discussed on AM Minnesota 11-20-2017

The Cannon Valley Elder Collegium was founded in 1997 and has grown over the past 20 years.

From 19 courses and 193 enrollees to 39 courses and 706 enrollees.

Current instructor and retired Faribault teach Gary Hoganson and Dr. Bob Speckhals will be the guests on today's KDHL AM MInnesota program to talk about the course offerings and benefits of getting back into a classroom after many years away.

Hoganson's class is "An Inside Look at Our Business Neighbors" and will feature a look at some of Faribault's businesses that you may have driven by for years and would like to know what happens inside.

I should note these classes are for those age 50 and older and you do not have to be retired to attend.

The winter registration period closes at 6:00 p.m. Monday, December 11.  To have the best chance of being enrolled in any oversubscribed courses, be sure to register by that time.

I will highlight a couple others though.

Reverend John Matthews has a course on, "The Holocaust as a Christian Tragedy."  This course discusses the church's response to the events.

Former Carleton Professor Bruce Colwell teaches a class entitled "Northfield 1968" that will be taught at the Northfield Senior Center eight Mondays from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Part of the course description on the website reads:

"Fifty years ago, 1968, was a pivotal year of momentous events and significant changes for the world, the United States, and for Northfield, Minnesota."

"This course will explore the history of Northfield in 1968."
