The Miesville Mudhens had to win one game today to capture their third straight Class B Minnesota State Amateur Baseball title but the Chanhassen Red Birds had other plans.  The Red Birds won their first state championship despite committing 7 errors in the two games.  Chanhassen bats got red hot on Sunday while Miesville was waiting in the wings and that momentum carried into Labor Day.

The Red Birds won the first game 6-1 and the second contest 7-4 in Shakopee.  Miesville was gunning for their 8th state title and it looked like it was more than within their grasp with just one victory needed.  The Mudhens had their chances with 10 runners left on base in the first game. Chanhassen pitchers operated very well with runners on base and the Red Birds were aggressive on the bases in the second game in particular with 4 stolen bases.

In the first game Chanhassen had 5 doubles which made up for being outhit 10-8 by Miesville.  The Red Birds had 4 errors but winning pitcher Miles Nablo went the distance and overcame the errors while allowing just one run in the first inning.  The Red Birds scored 3 runs in the 6th and 3 runs in the 8th to force the second and deciding game.

Nablo allowed 10 hits, 1 earned run, had 4 strikeouts and 0 walks.  Zach Hoffman collected 2 doubles and 2 RBI, Justin Anderson had 2 hits, 2 RBI and one double and Garrett Fischer had 2 hits for the Red Birds.

Miesville third baseman Brian Sprout had 3 hits to lead the Mudhens attack and catcher Nate Hammes had the lone RBI.  Sahnnon Ahern suffered the loss after pitching the first 7 innings, allowing 4 hits including 3 doubles, 3 earned runs, struck out 4 and walked two.

In game two Chanhassen put a crooked number on the board in the bottom of the first inning.  They scored 4 runs.  Miesville came back to tie the game with 2 runs in the 4th and 2 runs in the top of the 7th, but the Red Birds answered in the bottom of the 7th with 3 runs to retake a lead they would not relinquish.

Kyle Fischer went the distance in the second game for Chanhassen, scattering 5 hits, giving up 3 earned runs, striking out 8 and walking 2.  It had to be extra special for Fischer to win the title game in his hometown of Shakopee.

The Red Birds had 12 hits and committed three errors while Miesville played errorless ball and had 5 hits.

Steve Maher started the game for the Mudhens lasting 1.1 innings.  Deryk Marks took the loss while throwing the next 4.2 innings.  He gave up 5 hits, 4 earned runs , struck out 1 and walked 3 batters.  Chris Olean tossed the last two innings and shut the door on Chanhassen allowing 2 hits and striking out 2 but the Red Birds prevailed.

For Chanhassen five players again had multi-hit games led by Shawn Riesgraf with 3 hits, Derek Smith had 2 hits and 3 RBI, Zach Hoffman 2 hits and 2 RBI.  Garrett Fischer and Riley Johnson each had two hits and two stolen bases in the game and Fischer cracked a double.

Miesville losing pitcher Deryk Marks hit a 2 run homer in the game, Brad Goulet had two hits and Matt Van Der Bosch smacked a 2 RBI double.

Last year it was Miesville who lost to Chanhassen in the winner's bracket final and had to win two games for their second straight title and did.
