One of my favorite stores in the Twin Cities is Ax Man Surplus. You'll find these emporiums of bizarre and unique items in the Midway neighborhood of St. Paul at 1639 University Ave., in Fridley at 1021 East Moore Lake Drive, and in St. Louis Park at 8100 Minnetonka Boulevard. I've been to the one in St. Louis Park, but the one I prefer to visit is the store on University.

The inventory is always changing and the stores are filled with items you wouldn't normally find anywhere else. Things like electronic parts, gas masks, mannequin heads, artillery shells and odd hardware or industrial parts. If you're an aspiring artist who wishes to create a new and bizarre work of art, this place is this store you're looking for. They have all kinds of items that are useful in arts and crafts projects and you'll probably discover some other things you never knew you needed while you're searching the store. Plus, as you're looking around, you'll notice a lot of the merchandise has various humorous signs describing what you could use them for.

The next time you find yourself in the Twin Cities with an hour or two to kill, swing by the store closest to you and dive in. I recommend you check out the University store, though, if you want the whole experience. Oh, by the way if your OCD is organization, it may be a little difficult for you. This store has no rhyme or reason, but that's what makes exploring its shelves even more fun.
