Milestone Senior Living in Faribault is hosting Tuesday's AM Minnesota program and a community event next Tuesday, April 18, on the Medicare benefit of hospice.

A couple of people with Minnesota Hospice of Lakeville and Milestone Community Manager Karen Smith will join us for the show.

Hospice is more than nursing care. It focuses on the person, rather than the disease, offering a comprehensive level of care. Assuring that physical, psychological, social and spiritual needs are met.

Many people have heard the word hospice but don't really have a good understanding of what it's about. There are many myths surrounding hospice.

For example, many people think hospice care is expensive, only for those with a cancer diagnosis and a place to go where there is no hope. None of those are actually true.

Hospice is not about dying. It's about helping people live as well as they can when life expectancy is limited.

It's also about surrounding the patient's family with care and support after the end of a patient's life in order to help them through their healing journey.

I've had relatives and friends in hospice and it was such a blessing for them and their families.

We will get the details about next week's community event at Milestone and learn more about the Milestone Senior Living services available on Faribault's east side.

If you can't tune in at 9:30AM on the radio, go to the KDHL YouTube channel and watch the program at your convenience.
