Held as a way to promote summer tennis for area kids and tied in with the Tennis Block Party on Saturday, Darren Iverson set out to break the Guinness World Record of 33 consecutive tennis matches. Iverson started his quest on a what would be a rainy Friday, and a little more than 36 hours later he finished his 35th match, beating the old record by two matches and setting a new Guinness World Record.

That's putting it very simply for a man who only started planning his quest to break the record last fall. In order to pull off this feat of physical endurance, Iverson had to play through several hours of rain on a water-drenched court followed by a bright sunny day with limited time between matches to get a drink, snack or take a bathroom break. The two minutes allowed between matches were definitely not enough time to grab a quick nap, so he was, for all intents and purposes, on his feet and playing for the entire 36.5 hours. Now Iverson has to wait for his feat to be officially recognized by Guinness, which could take six to eight weeks. Congratulations to Iverson on this record-setting accomplishment!

Iverson stopped into the studio last Tuesday, May 26, to talk about his world record attempt. Here's that interview.
