A woman who was found and arrested in Faribault has now been charged after allegedly hitting a Kilkenny resident with her car after he asked her what she was doing parked outside his residence last week.

The driver has been identified as 44-year-old Rebecca Malecha. Malecha was charged on Monday in Le Sueur County District Court with felony criminal vehicular operation and misdemeanor counts of reckless driving, driving after revocation and no proof of insurance.

The victim, identified as 52-year-old Lee Balfe, called 911 at 9:20 p.m. Saturday and reported he was struck by a vehicle outside his residence on South Kilkenny Road. Balfe sustained broken ribs in after allegedly being struck by the vehicle Malecha was driving.

Balfe told police that he noticed a woman parked outside at around 9 p.m. and she drove off after he asked her if she needed anything. The woman then returned 10 minutes later and he approached her again and this time asked her if she was casing his residence for a future burglary.

It was when Balfe reportedly stepped in front of the car to note its license plate that the driver of the vehicle accelerated. Balfe said he was pushed onto the hood of the car and then rolled off onto the curb.

The plate of the vehicle that Balfe supplied to law enforcement was registered to Malecha, who was located and arrested in Faribault, according to the criminal complaint.

Malecha told police she was staying with a relative near Balfe's residence and claimed Balfe had been following her in a golf cart along with another man who was following her in a four-wheeler. She said Balfe got out, jumped onto her hood and tried to grab her through her window while holding a utility knife. She said she was scared so she “took off.”
