The Minnesota State High School Boys Hockey Tournament set an attendance record over the weekend and saw a repeat champion and first-time boys hockey state title holder.

The Lakeville North Panthers were the top seed in Class 2A because of their unbeaten record, and they absolutely rolled to the crown. The Panthers win their first boys hockey title after losing last year to Edina in the final. The Section 1 champs dominated in the section tournament, outscoring Dodge County, Rochester Century and Farmington 30-1 and then proceeded to outscore their opponents at the state tournament 14-4. They defeated Duluth East 4-1 in the championship game and became the first Class 2A team to go unbeaten for the season since Bloomington Jefferson during the 1993-94 school year.

In Class A, the Hermantown Hawks were in the title game for the sixth straight year and for the second straight year lost to East Grand Forks in overtime 5-4. Hermantown has finished second all six years. A new all-time attendance record was set, and it shattered the old one: 135,618 people attended at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul and Mariucci Arena in Minneapolis. The old attendance record was 129,643 in 2008.
