The July 4 holiday is the third-deadliest holiday on the Minnesota roads. The State Patrol will have extra troopers out in an effort to help keep everyone safe. Be sure that you are not drinking and driving or speeding, and make sure that you are wearing your seat belt.

Motorcyclists need to be careful as well. There were 61 motorcycle deaths in Minnesota last year, and nine killed in eight crashes as of June 1 of this year.

The State Patrol says many of the riders involved in fatal crashes were heading around curves, and most crashes involved speeding or some type of driver error.

Law enforcement says the record number of motorcyclist fatalities was in 1980, when 121 motorcyclists were killed in crashes. according to the State Patrol.

So please be safe, watch for motorcycles and don't drink and drive.

Have a great weekend.
