The Faribault Falcon boys basketball team opened the season Tuesday with one of the favorites to win the conference, Red Wing.

The Wingers had a happy bus ride home after defeating the Falcons 60-45.

Faribault led 29-25 at the half, but there was too much Travis Toivonen. Toivonen finished the night with 23 points for Red Wing and three Wingers added nine each. They were Kipp Adams, Ben Munson and Joe Sevlie.

Faribault senior Winfield Hunter was the only Falcon in double figures with 11 points. Kade Hart added nine and TJ Hunt had eight.

Faribault travels to Austin on Tuesday for their next contest.

Elsewhere in the Big Nine, Rochester Mayo beat Albert Lea on the road 79-66, Mankato East downed Owatonna 66-62, Northfield rolled past Mankato West 68-54, Lakeville North dominated Rochester Century 94-64.

In other area boys basketball, Bethlehem Academy came from nine points down at the half to defeat Triton 56-53 at Van Orsow Auditorium.

Breck got by Rochester Lourdes 49-45, Apple Valley crushed Chanhassen 105-69 at Chanhassen.

Chaska beat Eagan 62-55, Waseca defeated Hutchinson 83-75 in Hutchinson, Hopkins won over Lakeville South 91-68 at South.

Bloomington Jefferson has no trouble with Rosemount 75-59 at Rosemount, Byron nipped Simley 72-70 in Byron, Cannon Falls defeated Hayfield 58-33 in Hayfield.

Lake City rolled over Chatfield 74-40 in Lake City, Mayer Lutheran downed Medford 55-46 in Medford, Minnesota Transitions Charter School beat Pine Island 64-58 in Pine Island.

St. Clair defeated Blooming Prairie 72-63 in Blooming Prairie, Randolph rolled over Leroy-Ostrander 93-63 in Leroy, Maple River beat Sibley East 71-37 in Mapleton.

Rushford-Peterson over Lewiston-Altura 77-66 in Rushford, St. Peter cruised by United South Central 72-57 in Wells, Waterville-Elysian-Morristown defeated Le Sueur-Henderson 76-64.
