For the Faribault Falcon boys hockey team, scoring hasn't been a problem. At least until last night, when the Northfield Raiders did a masterful job of keeping bodies around the puck and not allowing Faribault to have many scoring opportunities. The result was a 3-0 Northfield win.

Connor Malecha scored his first two goals of the season, including an empty netter late, and Nick Kovernmo talllied the other score. Assists were collected by Ryan Torbenson, Andy Carroll, Ben Papke and Cole Dornbusch. Northfield dominated control of the puck, outshooting Faribault 25-14. Sophomore goalie Ryan Bielenberg picked up his second shutout of the season and improved his record to 6-3-1 while the Raiders are now 10-6-2 overall and 7-5-2 in the Big Nine. Faribault goalie Adam Johannsen dropped to 7-2 and had two penalties called on him in the third period.

There were no penalties until the third period, and Northfield had no penalties while Faribault collected five in the period. Johannsen's first penalty came after it appeared Falcon Alex Dunn had been hit from behind and went headfirst into the boards behind and to the right of Johannsen. That is supposed to be an automatic 5-minute major. Johannsen took exception to it and came out of the net to voice his displeasure and was slapped with a roughing penalty. Just a few minutes later he would be whistled for a delay of game. Our Faribault State Farm Insurance Agents Faribault player of the game was Johannsen, who kept his team in the game with some very nice saves. Faribault falls to 12-4-1 overall and 9-3 in Big Nine action. The Falcons host Rochester Century on Tuesday night while Northfield travels to Red Wing.
