In the snow globe atmosphere of Chisago Lakes High School in Lindstrom, just northeast of Forest Lake, on Wednesday night, the Faribault Falcon boys soccer team, in their first state tournament appearance, defeated previously unbeaten Hermantown 3-2 in a shootout.

2015 Mr. Soccer winner Daniel Hedstrom and Sijifredo Gonzalez put Hermantown up 2-0 at the half. Twelve minutes into the second half, Eric Gannon scored for the Falcons to make it 2-1. Faribault kept fighting and, with 1:10 left in regulation, Abdu Farah scored and made it 2-2. They then played two 10-minute overtimes, and the score remained 2-2.

They went into the shootout; after five kickers they were at 3-3. Then got to 5-5. Then Damian Pilon shanked his kick, which left the door open for Fabian Macias to make his kick and win it for the Falcons.

Faribault will face Orono on Wednesday at 5PM at St. Cloud State University. Coverage will start on KDHL at 4:45PM.
