Faribault Falcon senior divers Taryn Longshore and Sophia Steinberg are in the top eight through semifinal competition at the Minnesota Girls State Swimming and Diving Meet on the University of Minnesota campus.

Longshore is fourth and Steinberg sits in eighth place heading into Friday's Class A finals. The top eight earn all-state honors.

Longshore had the fourth-best score in the preliminaries, 171.35, and sits with a score of 259.25.

Steinberg had the sixth-best preliminary round score, 160.30, and has a score of 237.40 through the semis.

In Class A, Visitation of Mendota Heights is the three-time defending state champion. In Class 2A, Wayzata is going for its fourth straight title.

The Class 2A diving competition is this evening, and sophomore Allison An will be diving for Owatonna.

Northfield had no divers qualify for the state tournament this year, although there are a number of swimmers competing in Friday's swimming preliminaries along with several Falcons.

Last year the Falcons placed 11th with a total of 85.5 points and Northfield was 27th in Class A with 15 points.
