59-year-old Daniel Otis of Faribault who was one of the drivers involved in a New Year’s Eve rush-hour crash on Interstate 35 in Lakeville has died according to the Pioneer Press.

It's reported that Otis died Monday night due to the head injuries he suffered in the crash.

At the time of the crash 18-year-old, Hanna Costa of Northfield was driving northbound on I-35 near the 210th Street exit around 4:30 p.m. Dec. 31 when she lost control of her 1999 Mazda pickup truck and rolled the vehicle through the freeway median, according to the Minnesota State Patrol report.

The Mazda then collided with two southbound SUVs, including Otis’ 2000 GMC Jimmy.

According to the report Otis was taken by ambulance to Hennepin County Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

The report also stated that Costa and the other SUV driver 28-year-old Samual Porter of Farmington, were also hospitalized at the time with non-life-threatening injuries.

Road conditions on I-35 at the time of the crash were snowy and icy. The crash, which is still under investigation, closed parts of the interstate’s southbound lanes for about two hours after the accident.
