Faribault Fire Chief Dusty Dienst will be on today's KDHL AM Minnesota program at 9:30AM.

When we sprung the clocks forward a couple of weeks ago, I changed the batteries in my smoke detectors as I always do when changing the clocks in the spring and fall. Dienst has recommended in past visits replacing those detectors every decade. I'll get the official number on the program today.

I have to confess I have never changed my detectors and have lived in my home since 1992. So that is my next project, and I told the chief I am probably going to get the combination smoke/carbon monoxide detectors when I complete the project.

In the past, Dienst has also recommended hard wiring the detectors and told me in my rambler home the cost should not be prohibitive. I will be checking into all that.

During Tuesday's Faribault City Council meeting, three Faribault police officers received recognition for saving the lives of six people trapped in a burning home in early February. Working smoke detectors also assisted in saving those Faribault residents.

If you can't tune in at 9:30AM, go to www.youtube.com/user/KDHLRadio and watch the program.
