The Faribault Falcon girls and boys hockey teams defeated the Austin Packers today on Hockey Day Minnesota.

The games were held in Riverside Arena in Austin and good crowd witnessed the action.

The Falcon girls won 6-2 and the boys 6-4.

There was no live game sheet provided for the girls game but Head Coach Ali Miller told us during a broadcast of the boys game that her team was a bit sluggish over the first two periods.

Then they had a "chat" in the locker room during the second intermission, executed well in the third period to pull away for the victory.

Six different players scored in the game which Coach Miller "loves."

The Faribault Head Coach told us she challenged her team before the game to have four different players score.

The Falcons are 13-8 overall and 9-5 in Big Nine action and are alone in third place with 18 points.

Rochester Mayo leads the Big Nine with 24 points, Owatonna is next with 20 points.

The Packers fell to 4-11 in the league and 6-13 overall.

Faribault is at Rochester Lourdes Thursday at 5:00 p.m. then closes out their season with Rochester John Marshall and Northfield at the Faribault Ice Arena and Rochester Century on the road.

In the boys game Austin took the lead :54 seconds into the game when Tate Finley  scored off a rebound from a shot taken by Jackson Dankert .

The score was Austin 1 and Faribault 0 after the first period.

The Falcons were out shot 16-4 in the first period and 10-8 in the second but had 13 shots in the third period and Austin tallied 10.

Game totals were Austin 36 and Faribault 25.

5:11 into the second period the Falcons tied the game on a Leighton Weasler unassisted goal. The sophomore would finish the game with four goals.

At 10:20 freshman Zach Siegert  had an unassisted goal and 23 seconds later Weasler scored again.  Assisted by Siegert and Noah Murphy .

Faribault was up 3-1, but not for long.  13 seconds after that goal Austin's leading scorer Dylan Svoboda scored assisted by Tyler Hoban.

After two periods it was Faribault 3 and Austin 2.

2:42 into the third period Austin tied the game when Svoboda scored again with an assist by AJ Mueller.

7:44 Siegert scored a power play goal assisted by Brent Vogelsberg and Dylan O'Neil.

Weasler collected his third goal at 9:29 assisted by Jordan Nawrocki.  It was also a power play goal.

Austin's Mueller got their last goal on a power play at the 13:26 mark and Faribault ended the scoring on Weasler's empty netter from the Falcon blue line with 10 seconds left in the game.

Our Faribault State Farm Insurance agents Jason Krohn and Tony Langerud  players of the game were Weasler, Siegert and senior goalie Adam Vos.

Vos had 32 saves and Austin senior goalie Noah Bawek had 19 saves.

The Falcons are 7-9-1 overall and 3-7-1 in Big Nine play.  Austin falls to 1-6-1 in the Big Nine and 5-10-1 overall.

Faribault is scheduled to play a make-up game with Winona Monday at the Faribault Ice Arena with Roy Koenig scheduled to broadcast on POWER 96 Radio beginning 5:15 p.m.
