The Faribault Falcon girls basketball team defeated Kasson-Mantorville 63-48 in Nomeland Gym Tuesday night.

It was the home opener for Faribault and was an important victory because both teams are in the same section in the playoffs.

The Falcons jumped out to a 32-24 halftime lead with the balanced scoring of seniors Grace Amacher (9 points), Megan Gehrke (8 points) and Lauren Isaacson (9 points).

POWER 96 statistics had 9 turnovers for Kasson-Mantorville and 4 for Faribault at the half with the Falcons scoring 9 points off those turnovers.

In the second half both teams did a better job taking care of the basketball.

The difference in the game was at the free throw line where the Falcons were 17 of 24 according to the official scorebook and behind the arc.

Faribault had four three point baskets in the game from four different people, Amacher, Isaacson, Abby Van Ryn and Rachel Hanson.

Isaacson led all players with 17 points, Amacher according to the official book had 15 points and Gehrke finished with 12 points.

Kasson-Mantorville was 8 of 14 from the charity stripe and tallied two three point baskets.

The Komets were led by 5'4 junior point guard Bailey Berge with 10 points.  6'0 freshman Mya Suess had 9 points.  5'11 junior Meredith Wright and 5'8 senior Lexi Worden 8 points each.

Kasson-Mantorville dropped to 0-4 and are still trying to find their identity after going to the State Tournament last season and losing some players to graduation and some to volleyball.

Kristin Scott is now at Iowa State where the freshman is starting and one of just four freshman in the country averaging over 9 rebounds a game.

Junior Peyton Suess elected not to go out for basketball this year after verbally committing to Division One Wake Forest to play volleyball.

Komet Head Coach Ryan Heraldson has had some great teams over the last decade and Kasson-Mantorville was certainly competitive in the Faribault game.

In fact they got the score to single digits with just under four minutes to go in the game.

The Falcons host Northfield Friday in a boys/girls doubleheader.  Both games will be on POWER 96 Radio beginning 5:45 p.m.
