The Kasson-Mantorville KoMets defeated the Faribault Falcons girls basketball team 65-43 Tuesday night in Kasson.  Bethlehem Academy also fell to Triton 72 to 31.  The KoMets jumped to a 39-23 halftime lead thanks in large part to 18 first half turnovers that led to 19 first half points.  Falcon Head Coach Bill Bardal was proud of his team's comeback.  With just over 10 minutes to go in the game it was a 10 point deficit for Faribault.  I remember with just over 4 minutes to go and up by 13 saying a three point shot taken early in the offensive set by Kasson-Mantorville might not be the shot they wanted but it went went in.

The real seal for the win happened when Faribault's only senior Abby Van Ryn fouled out of the game with 4:00 to go.  Van Ryn finished the game with 20 points.  She had 4 three point baskets and was 4 for 4 from the free throw line.  The remainder of the Falcon team was 6 of 13 from the so called charity stripe.  Junior post Zoe Fronk was the only other Faribault player in double figures with 11.

Those two ladies were our Faribault State Farm Insurance agents Faribault players of the game.

Kasson-Mantorville also had two players in double figures.  Sophomore Olivia Matuska had 18 points and eighth grade student Aby Shubert added 15 points.  Matuska was red hot from three point range with three 3 point baskets in the first half.  Shubert also had three.

The KoMets were able to ratchet up the defense again when the game got closer and they hit their free throws down the stretch.  Kasson-Mantorville was 9 of 10 from the free throw line.  8 for 8 in the second half.

Faribault finished the game with 27 turnovers and the KoMets had 27 points off those turnovers.  The Falcons scored 6 points off turnovers.  Differential is 21 and Kasson-Mantorville won by 22 to start the season 3-0.  Faribault drops to 0-3 and hosts Albert Lea Friday night in their home opener.
