Faribault Falcon girls hockey head coach Ali Miller always wants her team to outshoot their opponents.

That did not happen Tuesday night and, for the first time this season, the Falcons lost at home.

League-leading Red Wing increased their lead over Faribault to six points with a 4-3 overtime win.

The winning goal came with just :23 seconds to go in overtime. Had the game ended in a tie, each team would've tallied one point. With the win, Red Wing took the four points and had a happy bus ride home.

Red Wing had 47 shots to Faribault's 20. The Wingers' shots by period were 18 in first, 11 in second, 13 in third and five in overtime. Faribault's shots by period were five in first, seven in second, five in third and three in overtime.

After the first period the score was 1-1, after the second period it was 2-2 and it was 3-3 heading to overtime.

With the four-point win the defending Big Nine champion Red Wing Wingers have a two-point lead over John Marshall in the standings with a handful of games left in the season.

John Marshall defeated Owatonna 4-2 in a two-point affair Tuesday night to extend their winning streak to five games and now have a 13-2 conference mark.

Red Wing is now 8-3 in the league and Faribault is 12-4 in the Big Nine.

In nonconference games, Mayo defeated Onalaska, Wis., 5-2; Waseca nipped Albert Lea 2-1.
