The Faribault Falcons girls hockey team defeated Rochester Mayo 3-1 in the Austin Invitational Tournament Friday while the falcon girls basketball team fell 61-37 to the Mankato East Cougars in Nomeland Gym.  Senior Kayli Burkhartzmeyer had two goals and an assist and junior Olivia Williamson added a goal in the Faribault victory.

The Falcons outshot Mayo 42-21.  Spartans junior goalie Makayla Pahl stopped 39 shots and Faribault junior goalie Mikayla Bohner had 20 saves while notching her 12th win of the season.  In the hoops contest Abby Van Ryn was the only Falcon in double figures with 15 points but Faribault went through most of the second half scoring just a couple of buckets.  They had an incredible drought after trailing 32-23 at the half.

Mankato East freshman post 6'1 Lexi Karge scored 13 of her 15 points in the second half to pull away for the Cougars.  Freshman Mackenzie Schweim added 13 points while going 6 of 8 from the free throw line.

Van Ryn and sophomore Bennett Wolff were our Faribault State Farm Insurance agents Faribault players of the game.  Wolff had 9 points and a number of rebounds but Mankato East dominated the glass in the game getting multiple offensive rebounds.  The Cougars are now 4-6 overall and 4-4 in the league while Faribault drops to 2-4 in Big Nine play and 2-7 overall.

The Falcons travel to Winona next Friday and the game will be on POWER 96 Radio, 95.9 FM.  The best way to listen is to download the free POWER 96 app on your favorite mobile device.
