The Faribault Falcons girls hockey team enjoyed a 5-2 win over the Austin Packers in Austin on Saturday in celebration of Hockey Day Minnesota.

Eighteen seconds into the game, Olivia Williamson took a puck out of the corner and passed it to Madeline Drevlow just below the blue line, and she drove it home with a hard shot to set the tone for the game.

It was Drevlow's fifth goal of the season and Williamson's eighth assist.

At 8:48 of the first period, Ellie Knutson scored her seventh goal of the year on a breakaway and the Falcons enjoyed a 2-0 at the first intermission.

The shots on goal were 14-11 in favor of Faribault, according to the official scorer, but I'm pretty sure they were counting all shots and not shots on goal.

Fifty seconds into the second period, Alexis Ferris scored a power play goal with assists to Williamson (9) and Allyson Mccoshen (11). Thirty-six seconds later, Austin answered with goal by Hannah McMasters (3) assisted Erin Bickler (3).

With just over a minute to go in the second period, Austin drew closer on a Jordyn McCormack (11) power play goal with assists to Myia Hoyum (11) and Sam Grunewald (2).

Austin clearly outshot Faribault in the second period and moved their feet better.  The official scorer has Austin with 17 shots and Faribault 11.

In the third period at the 3:55 mark, Kayli Burkhartzmeyer notched her third goal of the season with an assist from Williamson (10). Then Allyson McCoshen crashed the net for her sixth goal of the year to seal the victory with assists given to Abby Goodwin (4) and Williamson (11).

Our Faribault State Farm Insurance agents Faribault players of the game courtesy of Tony Langerud and Jason Krohn were Williamson, McCoshen, Drevlow and Camryn Salmonsen.

Salmonsen had 35 saves, according to the official scorer, and Austin goalie Faith Sayles had 26 saves.

The Falcons are now 8-3 in the Big Nine and 9-8 overall and are scheduled to play Mounds View on Monday. Game time is at 3PM.
