JC Penney announced in February that in an effort to get some growth going and for the longer term stability, that it was going to close 138 stores and one supply chain, affecting about 5,000 jobs nationwide.

Eight Minnesota stores are on the chopping block, including the one in the Faribo West Mall. According to a news release from JC Penney, stores should begin the process of shutting down on April 17.

Other stores closing in Minnesota are Central Lakes Crossing in Baxter, Five Lakes Centre in Fairmont, Irongate Plaza in Hibbing, Hutchinson Mall, Red Wing Mall, downtown Thief River Falls, and a free-standing store in Winona.

Additionally, JC Penney will provide outplacement support services for those eligible associates who will be leaving the company.
