Faribault Mayor John Jasinski signed a proclamation encouraging citizens to participate in Night to Unite events August 2.

Police Capt. Neal Pederson joined the mayor at the beginning of Tuesday night's Faribault City Council meeting to promote the event.

The proclamation states, "Night to Unite is designed to get to know one another in your neighborhood, build neighborhood involvement by bringing police and communities together; and to bring an awareness to crime prevention and local law enforcement efforts."

The proclamation also reads, "the citizens of Faribault play an important role in assisting the Faribault Police Department through joint crime, drug and violence prevention efforts."

During the council presentation, Pederson said they were aware of about a dozen parties in the community and added if people wanted to organize a neighborhood event they could contact Doug Delesha at 334-355 and get added to the list.

Traditionally Chief Andy Bohlen and staff members and Faribault firefighters have attended many of the neighborhood events.

Jasinski said during Tuesday's proclamation presentation that Night to Unite is a good opportunity to show Faribault public safety members how much they are, "appreciated for their hard work at a difficult time to be in law enforcement in this country."
