The Faribault Police Department reports officers were dispatched to a a welfare check in the 500 block of NE 1st Street east of the viaduct.

Captain Neal Pederson says the caller reported he had been speaking by phone to a resident at that address who become upset and threatened suicide.

In a news release the Faribault Police Captain says, "Officers learned the subject, a 29 year old male, was armed and inside of a garage.  The subject was in phone contact with friends and support people, but would not respond to officers."

He eventually left the garage, entered his residence and officers were then able to make contact with him.

Captain Pederson says the man was taken to District One Hospital and no criminal charges are pending.

The Faribault Police Department was assisted by the Rice County Sheriff's Office, Minnesota State Patrol, Northfield Ambulance and Dakota County MAAG Team.

"We are grateful this situation was resolved peacefully and the man can get the assistance he needs," Captain Pederson concludes.

For a period of time traffic was diverted in the area along Highway 60.
