The Faribault Youth Investment (FYI) organization announced Brian Coleman, service learning coordinator in the Faribault Public School District is the recipient of their Asset Champion Award.

Coleman started his position in 2015 and works with a variety of students, preparing each of them for success post-high school, whether it's academically and/or in the workforce.

Nominator Kurt Halverson says, "He truly has a passion for his role in helping young people uncover the best pathway to them to achieve their dreams.  He is very diligent when helping students in career readiness."

Coleman draws on his own life and work experiences in order to prepare students for their futures as functioning adults.

He has been out to the Rice County Fairgrounds the past few years with a group of students and helped with the setup for the Relay for Life event.

Halverson also says, "Brian's most valuable asset is his ability to genuinely show youth they are capable of achieving greatness, whatever that might look like for each individual student."

Becky Ford, FYI Director adds, "The way Brian interacts with youth is what makes him a champion.  He notices young people.  He engages them with friendly banter, which they love, but he also encourages them with that same enthusiasm. His zeal for life is contagious and inspiring.  He is someone youth trust and look up to.  I wish we could multiply him."
