Faribault School District Voters Voice a Resounding No

The Faribault Public School District request for approximately 87 million dollars to upgrade facilities and construct new buildings was defeated by about a 3 to 1 margin Tuesday night.

Superintendent Todd Sesker told KDHL/POWER 96 the big defeat for the operating levy request also tells him it wasn't just the building request voters didn't approve.

The vote for the operating levy increase request was 1,755 yes to 3,730 no.

The vote for the building bond referendum was 1,472 in favor and 4,009 against.

I asked the Superintendent of the Faribault Public Schools what the next step would be and he simply said the district would have to survey voters and find out why they voted the way they did and go from there.

Sesker sounded dejected when I spoke with him saying the large margin of defeat "maybe means school district residents don't want to do anything with the buildings."

A Faribault First campaign was very aggressive in encouraging people to vote.

According to some preliminary information the turnout was approximately 36 percent of the registered voters in the Faribault School District.
