The Faribault Falcons jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the top of the third inning at the Mini-Met in Jordan on Friday only to see the Hubmen win the game 9-7.

Junior righthander Blake Borwege started the game for Faribault and looked very good through the first two innings while retiring six of the seven batters he faced.

The Falcons meanwhile scored a run in the second and added five more in the top of the third, knocking out Jordan starting pitcher Jimmy Vollbrecht.

Vollbrecht threw 77 pitches, 36 for strikes, walked five and had no strikeouts while allowing six hits in 2-2/3 innings of work.

I rermember saying on the air Borwege had a long wait in the dugout and wondered if it would effect his pitching.

In the bottom of the third, the Hubmen started with a single and double and, after sending 14 men to the plate, would have eight runs on the board and take an 8-7 lead.

Faribault had 10 batters step in the batter's box in the top of the third.

Borwege went 2-2/3 innings and threw 51 pitches, 27 for strikes, while fanning two and walking two.

Junior Adam Vos took the loss and pitched to seven batters in the third inning. After striking out the first guy he faced he gave up a bases-clearing triple that tied the game and walked in a run to give Jordan the 7-6 lead after the third inning.

Jordan senior Zach Kes picked up the win while allowing one run in four innings.

Both teams had nine hits. Jordan had three errors and the Falcons had two.

Our Faribault State Farm Insurance agents Faribault players of the game were junior centerfielder Jake Louwagie and junior third baseman Cain Van Ryn. Louwagie was on base four of the five times he came to the plate and made some nice catches. Van Ryn had three singles and scored a run.

Faribault dropped to 2-2 with the loss and it was Jordan's season opener.

The Falcons are at Austin on Tuesday and host Northfield on Thursday while Jordan is at Belle Plaine on Monday, hosts Orono on Tuesday and sees Le Seuer-Henderson at the Mini-Met on Thursday.
