The Rice County Board of Commissioners today unanimously passed a resolution requesting state money for transportation planning at I-35 and County State Aid Highway 9 north of Faribault.

Rice County Highway Engineer Dennis Luebbe told commissioners he was contacted by Faribault State Sen. John Jasinski's office recently to pass a resolution in support of the proposed project.

The Faribault City Council has a resolution of support on their agenda for tonight's meeting also.

Commissioner Galen Malecha of Northfield made the motion to pass the resolution and Commissioner Steve Bauer of Faribault seconded the motion.

When Jasinski was on the KDHL AM Minnesota program with Faribault Mayor Kevin Voracek last December, he voiced a desire to get the ball rolling on the project and said it was a project that won't be constructed right away. In fact, he said it would be years before any interchange would become a reality.

Voracek told AM Minnesota listeners he supported looking into the proposal.

I asked about finishing the south interchange in Faribault before moving on to any new interchanges. The current and former mayors did not feel that was feasible.
