Also before the City Council meeting got underway, some Faribault Heritage Preservation Commission Awards were presented.

The winner of the Outstanding Achievement Award, recognizing exemplary accomplishments in historic building rehabilitation or restoration, was the Faribault Woolen Mill Co.

The Woolen Mill Co. repointed the chimney and north and west exterior walls of the mill. Repointing was done in a manner that mirrored the color, texture and size of the original work.

Total cost of the work was $3.5 million and the City of Faribault sponsored the Minnesota Historical and Cultural Heritage Grant that funded the majority of the repointing costs.

The Outstanding Signage Award went to F-Town Brewery.

F-Town is in the historic Peterson Art Building Complex, which was made by horse and hand with locally-quarried stone and brick. F-Town Brewery co-owner Noah Strouth made the unique metal sign, with Lockerby Sheet Metal and MRG Tool and Die contributing resources toward the project.

The Preservation Advocacy Award recognizes a person or organization from the community who has dedicated substantial time and effort to historic preservation.

The award was presented jointly to the family of Al Burkhartzmeyer and the Faribault Rotary Club for their work in in restoring the clock that projects from the Security State Bank building in downtown Faribault.

For years the clock was broken and the late Al Burkhartzmeyer set up a fund for memorials donated upon his passing to go toward restoration of the clock. Al passed away in 2012 and because he was a longtime member of the Rotary Club his fellow members decided to tackle the project also.

Some Rotarians were in attendance along with Buck Burkharzmeyer to receive the joint award.
