A Goodhue County K-9 was stabbed in the shoulder as a suspect tried to flee on Thursday. Ambush lead officers to the suspect after he was stabbed and then went down from the deep wound.

Ambush has been with the department for 2 1/2 years. After a trip to the veterinarian in Rochester and surgery, he is expected to be OK.

Officers were attempting to make a traffic stop on a man who had warrants out for his arrest and is known to law enforcement. He took off. Goodhue County officers followed him into Wabasha County, where he crashed in a ditch near Hammond. He retreated into the woods, shedding clothing as he did so. An hour later, deputy Matt Bowron and Ambush found him wearing minimal clothing. The suspect then allegedly used a screwdriver to stab Ambush.

The suspect was arrested and taken to Olmstead County jail. Charges are pending.
