With forecasts predicting record low temperatures for Monday, Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton has issued an announcement closing all public K-12 schools in the state for January 6th.

Citing the need to protect the children of Minnesota, Gov. Dayton made the decision today in order to give school administrators, teachers, and parents sufficient time to plan for the closures.

" The safety of Minnesota's schoolchildren must be our first priority," said Gov. Dayton. "I have made this decision to protect all our children from the dangerously cold temperatures now forecast for Monday. I encourage Minnesotans of all ages to exercise caution in these extreme weather conditions."

The National Weather Service predicts that most off the state the coldest temperatures in nearly a decade on Monday. Lows on Sunday are expected to drop to -30's and wind chills in the -50's. Highs on Monday are projected to only reach the -15 mark.
