In high school, I played tennis for a couple of years. I wasn't a great player, far from it, but it was such a fun experience, allowed me to explore a new skill and create memories. My only regret is that I didn't join sooner.

With a goal of 40 singles tennis matches, and needing to play at least 34 matches to create a new record, coach Darren Iverson has set a date to make his attempt. Coinciding with the tennis matches will be a block party on May 30 from 10AM to 1PM, where you can get a free tennis lesson, have a chance at winning a prize, play games and eat.

The event could take more than two days, and Iverson is looking for more opponents and people to serve as witnesses. If you are interested in helping out as a witness or playing a match, email falconstennis@gmail.com.

In addition to hoping to set a new record, Iverson is also hoping to draw attention to Faribault tennis and raise money for the program's expenses. Donations can be made online at www.gofundme.com by searching for Faribault Tennis, or at the event.

When I started at KDHL and Power 96, the Battle of the Ages tennis match between Jerry Groskruetz and Tyler Madison was approaching and it was great seeing how many people came to support and cheer them on as they played on a hot day. I haven't played in years, but maybe I'll have to find time to pull my racquet out and hit the courts this summer.
