A quick show of hands: Who here has asked for a free "water cup" at a fast food restaurant right before you ever-so-secretly fill that cup with fountain soda? Come on, now. Don't lie. We've all done it. I'm not seeing enough hands.

While we can all debate whether doing this is literally stealing from the restaurant or if it's just an Unspoken Fast Food Loophole, I can't recall ever seeing someone get into any actual legal trouble for it. Until now!

That's because a guy in Montana was busted by an employee at an Arby's for pulling the ol' Fake Water Cup routine. When the employee asked him to pay for his drink, the man refused and left the restaurant. When the employee followed him out and subsequently banned him from coming back, the soda thief tried kicking at him before continuing to walk away. That's when the Arby's employee called the cops, who eventually found the soda thief hiding inside a bathroom stall at a nearby Denny's. This is obviously a very classy story.

At the end of the day, this guy ended up with a felony robbery charge, plus Criminal Trespass, Disorderly Conduct, Obstructing a Peace Officer, and Resisting Arrest. And he could have just paid $2.33 for a small soda cup. Yikes.

...Yeah, this is probably why you just want to stick to water next time.
