The Faribault Bethlehem Academy Cardinals saw the Hayfield Vikings pull away Thursday night 58-38 in the first round of the Hayfield Holiday Basketball Tournament.  The score at halftime was 29-25 in the Vikings favor.  Hayfield played very well defensively in the second half holding the Cardinals to 13 second half points.

Bethlehem Academy shot 40 percent for the game (12 of 30), 22 percent from three point range (4 of 18) and didn't do themselves any favors at the free throw line (2 of 7).  Jack Clark was the only Cardinal in double figures with 13 points.  Damon Trump added 9 and Zach Van Thomme 8 points.

The Cardinals had 3 assists for the game and the Vikings 10.

Hayfield shot 50 percent from the field (13 of 26) and was 41 percent from three point range (9 of 22) in their home gym.  The Vikings were 5 of 7 at the free throw line.

Mason Tapp had three 3 point baskets and 15 points for Hayfield and point guard Ethan Slaathaug added three more 3 point baskets and 13 points.

In the other game in the tournament Zumbrota-Mazeppa crushed Lyle/Pacelli  75-45.  Cole Peters collected a double double with 21 points and 11 rebounds and Zach Hutton added 19 points.

BA will play Lyle/Pacelli in the consolation round Thursday afternoon and Hayfield and Zumbrota-Mazeppa have a reunion of sorts in the title game.  This is the Vikings first year in the Gopher Conference after moving from the H-V-L.
