Hayfield connected on seven three-point baskets in the first half and held Triton to six field goals in the second half in an Hiawatha Valley League boys basketball contest in Dodge Center on Monday night.

Leading the way was 5-foot-11 junior Drew Olive with a career-high 27 points. Olive connected on his 50th three-pointer of the season while hitting four first-half threes and was a perfect six-for-six from the free throw line.

The Vikings finished with nine three-pointers in the game compared with the Cobras' five.

Triton jumped out to a 6-0 lead to start the game and were engaged in a see-saw affair in the first half. Hayfield led 31 to 28 at the half.

Hayfield bottled up the lane to stop 6-foot-2 senior Isaiah Wannarka's dribble penetration drives to the basket and held him to 23 points. Wannarka was coming off a 40-point performance Friday against Pine Island where he scored his 1,000th career point.

The Vikings held him to two field goals the second half. In fact, only three Cobras scored in the second half. The only other Triton player in double figures was Garrett Dahms with 10 points.

Thanks to Olive's performance, the Hayfield bench outscored the Triton bench 30-6.

The Vikings' 5-foot-11 senior Aaron Younge had 13 points and 6-foot-2 senior Aaron Anderson finished with 10

Hayfield is 7-6 in the conference and 14-8 overall and Triton falls to 5-9 in the league and 9-13 overall on the season.

The Cobras host Randolph on Thursday and Hayfield's next game at Kenyon-Wanamingo will also be on KDHL.
