The 2016 Minnesota High School football season kicks off tonight for a number of teams and more openers are slated for tomorrow night.

Tonight on KDHL Radio I'll be in the Snake Pit as the Triton Cobras collide with the Kasson-Mantorville Komets in what should be a very good opener for our high school coverage.

The MaxPreps.com preseason rankings have Triton second only to defending state champs Caledonia in Class AA. Both teams (Triton and Caledonia) are in the same section. Fifth ranked Lewiston-Altura and sixth-ranked Chatfield are also in that section. Dover-Eyota is 19th. Talk about loaded.

Kasson-Mantorville is rated 15th in Class AAAA by MaxPreps.com and Faribault is 25th. Stewartville is sixth, Mankato East ninth and Winona 10th

Our featured game on Power 96 Radio doesn't have state-ranked teams, but it should still be a very competitive exciting game when the Cannon Falls Bombers travel to Zumbrota-Mazeppa. John Anderson will have that call.

Friday night on KDHL I'll be in the Moat when the Kenyon-Wanamingo Knights host the Goodhue Wildcats. Both teams were very successful last season and are looking to continue their winning ways.

In the MaxPreps.com preseason rankings, Goodhue is second to defending state champs Minneota. Fillmore Central is in the same section and ranked fourth, Bethlehem Academy out of the same section is rated ninth, Blooming Prairie out of the same section is 10th.

That's not all, also in the same section are Wabasha-Kellogg at 18th and Rushford-Peterson at 20th.

Kenyon-Wanamingo is rated 17th in the MaxPreps.com preseason poll and a couple of teams from their section are also ranked. Blue Earth Area is eighth, Maple River ninth, Waterville-Elysian-Morristown 14th and New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva is 23rd.

John will have the Falcon opener at Rochester Mayo tomorrow night on Power 96 Radio 95.9 FM.

All broadcasts can be heard online at www.kdhlradio.com or www.power96radio.com and can also be accessed by downloading the free RadioPup app on your favorite mobile device.

Let the games begin.
