Faribault Fire Chief Dusty Dienst stops by KDHL to visit about staying safe during the holidays.

I was planning on doing this show earlier, but in hindsight I'm glad we are doing it now because the next couple of weeks are the most dangerous for fires. It seems every year we hear the tragic stories of a home fire Christmas Eve or Christmas Day or New Year's Eve or New Year's Day.

Dienst will also touch on some other safety issues, not just for the holidays but winter in general.

In Perham came the tragic story of a person dying and several people being treated for carbon monoxide poisoning at a residence near Vergas, which is in northwestern Minnesota. Otter Tail County authorities say three Perham Emergency Medical Services employees were among eight people hospitalized after they were overcome Monday night.

A 67-year-old Vergas ma was home alone Monday when his wife came home and discovered him. She immediately phoned 911. She and seven of the emergency responders were those hospitalized and officials say they are expected to make a full recovery.

It's a painful reminder to have working detectors on each floor of your home.
