Just as statistics show that more and more people are utilizing mail-order or internet sources for their holiday shopping this year comes the news that the number of reported package thefts is also on the rise; the correlation should come as no surprise.  And while prevention and caution are usually the first line of defense in situations like this, when it does happen - the question becomes what to do about it.

If you know that a package you were waiting for was delivered to your door and it's no where to be seen, the first and perhaps most-obvious step is to contact the authorities.  If in fact the box was delivered (i.e. you have tracking receipts to prove it) then there has been a crime committed against you.  The police will be able to help you fill out the paperwork to report the theft.
