I recently has a discussion with a coworker about a trip she plans to take sometime this summer. She and her travel companions have been to the location several times before, and plan to continue going annually for the foreseeable future. However, how they prefer to spend the time once they arrive at their destination is something that they disagree on.

My coworker would prefer to spend her days relaxing by a pool, catching up on her reading list and having a leisurely time with no strict plans or place to go. Others in her travel group prefer to fill every moment of their time with an activity.

I confessed to her that I fall somewhere in between, although, I definitely have leanings toward the activity-filled style of travel. She has been to this destination several times, so maybe that makes a big difference. But I don't often get a chance to travel, and when I do, I don't know if I'll ever get the chance to go back. I appreciate lounging with a good book, but I can do that at home (if ever I have the time), whereas I might never get a chance to see or do some things again.

When I travel, I like to do a bit of research on what is available for activities, things that make the area unique, and sightseeing adventures. I usually make a list of every possible thing in case there is something that might interest whoever I am traveling with, and then another list containing what I consider to be my priority see/do/explore list. Realistically, I know I won't have a chance to do everything, but hopefully I can at least cross off a good chunk of my priority list. I also try to keep it realistic. If I will be at a destination for four days, I can't reasonably expect to see 50 attractions, but I could plan on 10. That way I still get to explore the area, but also manage to have plenty of time to sit back and relax.

When you travel, do you prefer to sit poolside and relax, or do you like to get out there and explore? Take the poll and let me know!
