Growing up in Minnesota there are two things every person knows when it comes to sports. The first is hockey, whether you grew up playing the game, or just watching it on television, A LOT of Minnesotans know the game of hockey. The second thing every person knows about sports in Minnesota is...the team, whatever team that is, will almost certainly break your heart. Not type of heart break like you went through with your first boy/girlfriend. The type of heart break where you are openly sobbing, like at the end of Ol' Yeller.

All week long I opined for watching the Purple take down Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints. REVENGE would be ours! And that revenge would be so sweet, ala shades of 2009 where Brett Favre was pummeled black and blue.

But I didn't get to witness the "Minneapolis Miracle" as Vikings play-by-play announcer Paul Allen put it.  Instead of watching all the way to the end of the game I decided that I should probably get to bed at 3am comes pretty early. In fact when I shut off the game I was already feeling defeated. The Vikings, which had put up 17 points in the first half, had fallen behind. Being a sports fan in Minnesota I was just waiting for the other shoe to drop, like waking up to Case Keenum having gotten injured.

That of course wasn't the case, the Vikings went on to win in spectacular fashion.  So to all my Minnesota sports fans, maybe we put the logic away for the next couple of weeks and turn our thoughts to ones of hoisting the Lombardi Trophy in our home state.
