Rochester John Marshall junior Matthew Hurt was averaging 44 points per game heading into Tuesday night's contest against the Faribault Falcons.

He scored 23 points and notched his 2,000th career point in the 78-32 win in Rochester.

I remember saying with about 8:20 to go in the first half the pace was probably where Faribault needed it to be and all of a sudden the Rockets blasted off to take a 40-19 lead at the half.

Hurt had 9 points at the half and a number of assists and rebounds.

Before the game Falcon Head Coach Fred Miller said one of the keys for a Faribault upset would be to hold Hurt under his 44 points per game average.

Check that box.

He said his team had to hang with John Marshall on the glass and you can place a big check in the Rocket column there.

Coach Miller wanted his team to move the ball and take good shots.

The run by John Marshall in the first half was fueled by Falcon turnovers and a stretch where Faribault shot nothing but three point shots.

At halftime Faribault had just three people score.

Junior Joe Palmer had 9 points and seniors Bailey Reichert and Ben Malmanger added 5 each.

Palmer was the only Falcon in double figures at the end of the game with 13 points.

He was chosen our Faribault State Farm Insurance Agents Faribault player of the game courtesy of Faribault State Farm agents Tony Langerud and Jason Krohn.

The statistic of the game in my opinion, John Marshall had 7 total turnovers with every player participating in the game.

Faribault had 19 turnovers and the Rockets scored 21 points off those turnovers.

The Falcons were 1 of 7 from the free throw line and John Marshall was 10 of 19.

Both teams are off until December 28th.
